Oblinyanko Drum & Dance Ensemble

Oblinyanko started in 1992 as the West African Traditional African Dance/Theater Ensemble. Oblinyanko dancers have been trained by the world-renowned director and choreographer Professor Peter Abilogu, who has taught at nearly all of the UC System, and at colleges in Southern California. Roxann Abilogu, a well-known sculptor and painter, now a costumer and dancer, has worked with her husband to form this unique group committed to the preservation, nurturing and promotion of the African World. Oblinyanko showcases and positively portrays the living arts and cultural symbols through the use of authentic artifacts, engagement in forums for community-driven inter-cultural dialogues, and participation in festivals characterized by pomp and pageantry that transcend mere entertainment.
